Hatha YogaHatha Yoga

Yoga is difficult to date, it is a timeless philosophy, indifferent to time and place. The word 'yoga' means 'to reunite', and this refers to the will to re-integrate as to the technique, the actions, and steps necessary to carry it out.
The yoga most known and practiced in the West is of Indo-himalayan origin, and is very ancient.
Thanks to the interaction between different cultures and environments a large number of schools were set up in that area and for thousands of years millions of people dedicated their energies to the discovery and organisation of the best system of yoga.
The tradition they have left us is enormous and of incalculable value. From it , each of us can gain health, serenity and spiritual force. Over time the different schools, and the numerous techniques of yoga were grouped according to logical schemes which gave rise to secondary systems while the aims of yoga remained unchanged, that is the understanding of self and other. Each system differs according to the importance attributed to its particular practices. Each type of yoga develops a specific potential without denying or ignoring others. Simply put, each system takes account of individual preferences and dispositions.
"The wakening and balancing of forces" - Hatha Yoga deals with the balancing of magnetic energy of the body, (Pranamayakosha). To this end this end it uses 'asana' (static positions ) and breathing exercises, concentration and other exercises.
The word 'Hatha' is formed of 'ha' and 'tha' meaning respectively sun and moon, positive and negative poles. This underlines the double polarity of energy and the necessity of recovering balance and synergy.
One begins with Hatha Yoga which is a complete system in itself and if one is interested in other aspects of the philosophy of yoga one will then be ready to tackle them without difficulty. For us in the West balancing physical, mental and emotional energy is a necessity which can be put off no longer, and Hatha Yoga is the ideal way to tackle this.
Some define Hatha Yoga as physical yoga, but in truth this discipline is occupied with the balanced development of vital energies, the characterisation and intensity of such energies and the levels of awareness which the energies produce. It is a marvellous system for regenerating the self and recovering its original clarity.
This discipline brings together physical, respiratory, vibratory and mental exercises. Specifically it uses Asana, (position) rhythmic respiration, the use of vibration, (the mantra) concentration and visualisation. At the base of these practices is the concept and the reality of prana, and knowledge of the philosophy of the (subtle) body.

Dynamic YOGA

Dynamic Yoga is a creative type of Hatha Yoga which integrates Astanga and Iyengar Yoga.
It is a type of activity that enhances meditation and is also physically very demanding. What distinguishes Dynamic Yoga is that the postures are carried out in a sequence; they are linked to one another through movements and synchronization of the breathing, thus achieving a continuous flow of yoga postures . All the parts of the body are equally trained, leading to a high degree of mental concentration. Yoga is traditionally divided in five “ways”: Karma Yoga, the way of action; Gyana Yoga, the way of wisdom; Bhakti Yoga, the way of devotion; Hatha Yoga, the physical way; Raja Yoga, the way of meditation. Dynamic Yoga is a type of Hatha Yoga, which has been devised on the basis of postures or asanas.
Dynamic Yoga is based on synchronized movements integrated with breathing in order to enhance the energy levels, help the mind to concentrate and avoid pulling muscles. What is important is that one does not do any kinds of movement without breathing; it is also essential to begin each posture inhaling and finish is exhaling. This technique is called pranayama.
The correct alignment of the body is essential in the practice of Dynamic Yoga. The body’s weight has to be well-balanced and adequately distributed. In every posture it is therefore essential to check the position and alignment of every part of the body and, if necessary , correct it in order to be in total equilibrium . in fact elongating the spine increases the space between the vertebrae, enhancing more movement. In order to be able to support the spine completely, all the muscles must be involved; these have to be “taught” to work in harmony together.

Stretching Yogilates

The integration of Yoga and Pilates

For fitness

Strength and perfect suppleness

Yoga and Pilates have been conceived with the intent to improve through methodical exercises, mind and body, not only developing remarkable physical qualities and strengthen health, but changing for the better body and soul. Yoga, on one side with its positions creates awareness, resistance, suppleness and versatility, on the other hand Pilates, with its mat exercises develops a true central force, a central and precise alignment and muscle coordination through all its movements. Yogilates was conceived to create an accessible and effective system that brought together the best of both techniques. Anyone could practice them: those who have already experienced Yoga, or experienced Pilates, or those who haven’t experienced either. Starting to develop the fundamental capacities and consciousness of the body, I want to teach, the essential principles of breathing correctly, as well as the central muscle connection, and how to keep the alignment of the body, which are the physical basis of Yoga and Pilates. One of my aims is to create a program that optimizes time, a balanced and flowing programme that takes care of all areas, and that allows the integration of Hatha Yoga fundamentals and Pilates. Learning Yogilates helps to have a flatter tummy, teaches how to sit and stand up with a better alignment and helps to loose excessive weight. At last, Yogilates is thought to improve health and tone on the whole, and gives the opportunity to learn a versatile practice that can always be exercised. Both beginners and skilled, with the basic exercises can develop a personal programme and increase their confidence in their capability to improve the exercises. Yogilates philosophy aims to integrate soul with purpose, in everyday’s life and to act in accordance with each one’s ability. Yogilates encourages a positive attitude towards oneself and teaches the way to appreciate ones natural gifts.

B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga

B.K.S. Iyengar was first known in the west in the sixties when although over eighty he was an important figure in the world of yoga. He lives and continues to teach at Puna, India.
His great ability lies in his knowledge of how to articulate the exact alignments required to correctly carry out an Asana. The systematic determination of the alignments of each asana is a significant contribution to yoga but greater is his understanding of the subtle and hidden connections between the different parts of the body.
Many years of rigorous study have given Iyengar a profound awareness of the physical benefits of each asana, such knowledge has allowed him to use the asana to treat a wide variety of pathologies.
